BLACKNUSS: books + other relics is a fugitive bookstore project led by author Sharifa Rhodes-Pitts. Founded from the sidewalk of Malcolm X Boulevard in Summer 2014, BLACKNUSS lands in the atrium of SMH for a weekend pop-up shop featuring new, vintage and collectible books, magazines, zines and other items, including vinyl, tote bags, and prints. Rhodes-Pitts launched her 2011 book Harlem Is Nowhere: A Journey to the Mecca of Black America with a standing-room-only event at the Studio Museum -- it was named among 100 Notable Books of that year by the New York Times Book Review and was recently cited by Bookforum as the "Best New York Book" of the past twenty years. The BLACKNUSS: books + other relics pop-up will be open in the atrium during Museum hours.
